Constant Readers,
So, I wasn't there at 6:30 pm. More like 6:35 or so. But I was there, at the hearing before the Presidio Trust Board on the proposed development plan for the Presidio - which includes the Fisher museum. I had my Moleskine notebook, my lucky pen, and every intention of reporting back to y'all on the good, the bad and the awesomely crazy.
That's right - there was only capacity for 500 or so in the actual hearing, and with no spillover facilities, there were about 200 of us left to mill around outside and wait for people inside to leave. (Here's a pic taken with my bb.) With a long line to gain entrance already formed and no enterprising bouncer to grease/bat my eyelashes at, I decided to call a cab and try to salvage my evening.
While I waited for my taxi, I chatted up some folks I know and explained how "this is bullshit" to anyone who would listen. (Cursing and pointing out the obvious are just some of my charms.) One of my friends said the breakdown in the room looked to be 60 percent opposed to the development and 40 percent in favor.
Because of the large turnout, there will supposedly be another hearing in September. Its location will be anybody's guess, since I'm not sure there are any facilities at the Presidio large enough to hold 700-1000 people. Yet.
