Constant Readers,
It's Friday. It's August. And no one needs a lot of heaviness today. I went to YouTube to see about some interesting videos for y'all - so I typed in "San Francisco" and "politics" and, lo and behold - several videos of Ahsha Safai for Supervisor came up!
This first one cracked me up because of its soundtrack. A subliminal attempt to make us "Crazy In Love With Ahsha"?
This second one is a little longer and with a more appropriate soundtrack. This one is worth watching because of the extended chant at the end.
Who is running this campaign? "Ahsha For Supervisor" lacks internal symmetry and is sure to bewilder and deflate the audience trying to spit it out. A catchier phrase would be "Ahsha, boombaye!" (Ahsha, kill him!) from When We Were Kings. Or "Ahsha, Ahsha, Ahsha" - in the spirit of Jan Brady's lament.
Or skip the damn singing, open the bar, play some Beyonce and get to passing out envelopes for donations.
While I couldn't find any commercials for Ahsha's opponent John Avalos on YouTube, I did find this video from his kickoff that was filmed by Fog City Journal. For his part, Avalos (whom I've met and is very nice) holds the microphone like Loretta Lynn and tries to rile the crowd with a chant of "Many Voices, One Community!" Needless to say...
As the campaigns continue, here's hoping these folks find a way to Make It Work. Or at least Make It Not Awkward. Have a great weekend - especially you District 11 residents! --Melissa
The song for Distrcit 11 is a West Side Story remix. The SFSU kids are the Jets and the City College kids are the Sharks. As go the gangs, so goes the district.
Props for covering our hood, though. We're usually so neglected.
D11 holla!

I wanted to name my old company "Boma Ye Campaigns" and then decided not to. Only to find out someone else did in Los Angeles (and yes it does political consulting!)
So awesome.
