Constant Readers,
Last night, Beth and I went to a bar-b-cue hosted by my dear friend Lee Ann and her boyfriend Randy. Entering their lovely house, I felt like a visitor from the planet Apartment. And spent the first 15 minutes walking around in stunned disbelief asking questions like, "So, let me get this straight: NO ONE lives above or below you? Wow! Really? We can Wii box all night and no one will passive-aggressively bang on the ceiling or floor?" (We did end up testing that theory.) It was great!
We were celebrating the departure of our friend Derek. He's one of those people who is so brilliant that I think there must be a god, but of course, the recipient of the lightening bolt himself is too smart to be religious. He's wickedly funny and charming, too. And the best proof of that fact is his wife, Leslie. She's gorgeous. A pediatrician. Does yoga. Flosses twice a day (I'll bet). And laughs at my dumb jokes. And kicks my ass at Wii boxing. And she and I will be spending lots of time together in the next 6 weeks. Because Derek is going to Ohio to work for the Obama campaign.
It means that, right now, there are lots of folks in Ohio who think they are voting for McCain. But they are wrong. Because they ain't met Derek yet.
So here's to all the people who are traveling or will travel to be part of the Obama campaign. People giving up vacations, time with loved ones and sunny weather to be part of a revolution. Lawyers, community organizers, rabble rousers and muckrakers.
I'd go myself, but who would take care of Leslie?
-Melissa

In a rare occasion, I'm speechless and I have you to thank for that. Thanks, love. Take care of my wife and stay out of trouble.
I'll see you in 6 weeks...

I know Derek. . .and I'm still not voting for Dear Leader. Have a Little Kings, or at least an Iron City or Yuengling, for me.

@venerablebede - Not everyone is as batshit crazy as you. Them's the people Derek and others will win over.
