Constant Readers,
Just because the Board of Supes is not in session doesn't mean an end to boring, yet contentious public meetings at City Hall. Case in point:
Tomorrow at 2 p.m., there will be a meeting in Room 416 about proposed changes to Muni lines. Apparently, a bunch of Union Street Merchants are going nuts because the proposal includes bigger buses and bus stops on "their" street which will bankrupt everyone. Or something like that. Though, frankly, I'm pretty sure these big signs aren't helping property values either.
(Many thanks to my friend Jim over at SFCitizen for letting me use his pic.)
Aside from the Union Street dustup, I'm told there's the matter of a bus stop being planned for the front of a synagogue called Congregation Beth Sholom. The MTA wants to re-route the #2 Clement bus down 14th Avenue, but the synagogue (which is on the southwest corner of
14th Avenue & Clement Streets) claims that will exacerbate an already crappy traffic situation. Rumor is that there will be at least one Rabbi in attendance.
Moving on...
This Thursday night, my friend Paul Hogarth will be hosting a fundraiser to help Californians go to Maine and assist in the fight against Proposition 1, a measure that would end the newly-recognized right of Maineians (?) Maniacs (?) - er, people in Maine to marry a person of the same sex. I'll be there, and some cool people will, too. Email him at phogarth@mac.com for more info.
Speaking of events, a friend sent me a link to this site called the "Not Going To Burning Man" guide for 2009. It lists events and ideas for activities from Aug 31 - Sep 7, and describes them with flair. I'm all over that Cakeland Gallery opening.
That's all for now. Have a great day!
-Melissa
It is hard to sympathize much with the union street folks - they voted for newsom and his MTA, and they voted for the cuts that are making MUNI make these changes. If something similar was going on on our neighborhood I doubt they'd care much.

"Monster Bus"? Is that anything like a "monster truck"?
If so, I am 100% in support of these proposed changes.

Dear Editor,
Kamala Harris, San Francisco’s District Attorney, received poor advice from someone and filed charges against City College’s former Chancellor, Dr. Philip R. Day, Jr., and two current administrators, Stephen Herman and James Blomquist. These charges must be dropped. Go to: www.ccsfsupport.wordpress.com to read the opinion of hundreds of people who are outraged by this situation.
