The Board of Supervisors will be on hiatus for the last two weeks of August and will resume meetings in mid-September, just in time for Round 2 of this year’s budget mess.
On Sept. 14, the Controller’s Office will submit an updated assessment of the effects of state budget cuts on The City’s bottom line. (pdf of budget letter Download Preliminary State Budget Impact.) Mistermayor will have 21 days to submit a plan for dealing with that shortfall to the Board of Supervisors, who can then offer amendments in the form of a de-appropriation ordinance.
Also, in the first week of November we’ll receive the actual (as opposed to projected) first-quarter local property-tax numbers. With so many San Franciscans requesting abatements this year, we could be in for a shock.
November will be marked by painful budget adjustments. Mark your calendars.
