I'll only note that of the 15 states (incl. dc) with unemployment above 10% (october 2009 numbers from bls), 11 of them voted for obama. so perhaps you're right, that is why "going rogue" is a bestseller.

whoops. . correction, 10 of the 15 states voted for Obama. also, 4 of the top 5 went for obama (Michigan, Nevada, Rhode Island and California). The fifth state is South Carolina.

What is even more frightening is that people have such short memory that they do not seem to realize that this whole situation was inherited by Obama. He was not at the helm the past 10 years and further, he was left with a time bomb of such historic proportions that only one man in the history of our country has ever dealt with anything close to this kind of threat; FDR.
It was not enough to force him to overcome the amazing odds of taking out an unfriendly political and economic establishment in order to become the first black president. Now, the measure of his presidency is not the mediocre standards that applied to his predecessor but indeed the once in our history standards set by FDR.
In the midst of the cataclysmic economic and political chaos that is bound to change America and most likely the whole world forever - which, did I mention was caused by the time bomb left behind by our "compassionate" past president? - comes Sarah dearest dancing along to the tune of "I am rouge" and talking about a country that is no more and will never be again.
A glorious and colorful political butterfly spreading the warm and cozy gospel that everything is going to be "OK" as long as we reduce taxes and denounce the climate change hoax.
A butterfly that ignores her own responsibility and does not understand that faced with the destruction left behind by those she supported we are not looking forward to the challenge of re-building but indeed to the far more complicated and daunting challenge of building anew from scratch.
I think her book appeal is not necessarily a product of unemployment but instead the need many have for denial. There is no other way to explain people willing to endure the reading of a book which I can only describe as "b#ll sh#t", for lack of better "onomatopoeia" to describe it.
This, coming from someone who likes the lady and is not an Obama fan.

I love listening to the Republitards gripe about what Obama has done in his first year. Dickbag Cheney kvetching about Obama not being decisive when it comes to Iraq, Afghanistan or Guantanamo. Hey Dick, what did you do for the 7 years you had those naughty boys in custody? Ever read the Geneva Conventions? Nah, who needs Democracy or that messy old Constitution when you have a dictatorship.
I would love to hear a single voice in the Republican party explain exactly why George Bush went into Iraq and let Osama bin Laden get away. Anyone?
Right, didn't think so. Now STFU and stop whining.

Alaska has traditionally higher unemployment than the lower 48 for a variety of legitimate reasons.
Recently, Alaska has improved employment numbers for north slope areas while the rest of the state has taken a slightly smaller hit than the lower 48.
Frightening national unemployment is a little less frightening in Sarah Palin's Alaska. It is likely to generate some interest in her autobiography.

@Robert Kenedy Our dear Ted Kenedy, God have him in his glory, said it in very few words; "The war in Iraq is a war Made in Texas".

In antiquity such works were typically entitled apologia, implying as an example of much self-justification as self-documentation. John Henry Newman's autobiography (first published in 1864) is entitled Apologia Pro Vita Sua in reference to this tradition.
