Constant Readers,
I just got the unofficial word that Mistermayor will be announcing a run for Lieutenant Governor. Probably tomorrow. (Like anything unofficial, this could be nonsense, but the source is a good one.) Like I wrote the other day, if he wins the Lt. Governorship (and at least one poll says he will) that means the Board of Supervisors gets to pick the next Mayor. That person would serve for at least four months, and up to one year - depending on when an election is scheduled to pick a replacement.
Oh, who would it be?
I wonder if this will make progressives on the Board re-think that Charter amendment that would wrest some budget control from the Office of the Mayor.

Day made.

If you were a hard-nosed oddsmaking Vegas bookie and you had to let your money ride on one pony, who do you think the Board would choose?
And besides the termed out Maxwell & Daly, which of the Supes would actually take it? We know Ross is auditioning, but why would Chiu give up his seat and his Board Presidency? What are people whispering?
(I'm so excited!)

I just whispered, "Beth Spotswood" out the window...

Generic,
I'm giddy myself! Remember that it doesn't have to be a member of the Board. It could be YOU! Or Aaron Peskin. Or Leland Yee. (Those last two are who people are whispering about.)
And I think Chiu would take that shit in a second.
As would I.

Beth, what's for platform? I'm sure you would be better than the alternatives. As much as I'd like to see Newsom go, the thought of Peskin or a Peskin surrogate as mayor scares the hell out of me. The "progressives" can do a lot of damage in 4 months to a year.
On the other hand, I wonder if our Gavin can win a statewide election given his record as mayor.

Aaron Peskin is the next mayor. Every progressive board member owes him. Outside chance it's Yee with Chief of Staff Peskin. Daly is budget director in either case. Chiu doesn't have the balls to hold on to the interim spot.

"the source is a good one . . ."
That Jennifer just can't keep her mouth shut can she?

Pes-KIN!
Pes-KIN!
Pes-KIN!
Sweet Jesus, please please please let there be a camera in front of Willie Brown's face if that result should come to pass.
And let's have some visuals! Let's lock the supes inside City Hall until the results are announced, Vatican-style! Black smoke for no-decision, white smoke for a verdict. Crowds will gather at the steps and Gavin will hail them. The victor's hand will be raised high, with his, in triumph.
I'll release the flock of doves.

Several irate taxpayers say that the SFMTA and the Department of Parking and Traffic - DPT's practices are predatory and abusive. I say that its time to file a class action lawsuit against the SFMTA and the DPT Department of Parking and Traffic.
