Melissa: What are your thoughts on SF City Charter Sec 3.100 related to Mister Mayor's lt. gov. campaign?
"The Mayor shall be the chief executive officer and the official representative of the City and County, and shall serve full time in that capacity. The Mayor shall devote his or her entire time and attention to the duties of the office, and shall not devote time or attention to any other occupation or business activity. The Mayor shall enforce all laws relating to the City and County, and accept service of process on its behalf."

sfsoma: excellent point. Far as I know, that's traditionally been read to apply to outside business dealings, not running for another office. So, he can't run restaurants while Mayor, but can run for Lt. Gov.

Well, things worked out a little different from the way I thought, but let me tell you, I still love San Francisco.

[roar of applause]

I have come here tonight not to argue the accuracy of your assertions about the mayor's decision (seriously, what difference does an entire month make when you're in the who/what/when/where business of news, anyways) but to affirm a cause.

I'm asking you [smattering of applause] ... I am asking you to renew the commitment of rum punch bowls at Hobson's Choice. I am asking you to renew our commitment to a fair and lasting afternoon of intoxication at my expense. This is the cause that brought me into this contest and that sustained me for the past several weeks. The serious issue before us tonight is which flavor you will choose. In the timeless, eloquent words of Gozer the Gozerian; "Choose your destroyer."

I congratulate Melissa on her victory here. And someday, long after this post, long after the signs come down and the crowds stop cheering, and the bands stop playing, may it be said of my campaign that I kept the faith. For me, a few hours ago, this wager came to an end. For all those whose cares have been my concern, the work goes on, the cause endures, the hope still lives, and the dream shall never die.

You ever get that feeling of like, preemptive nostalgia?

I'm worried there will come a time in the SF blogosphere when Melissa no longer feels comfortable telling people to Suck It.

The day Melissa no longer feels comfortable telling someone to Suck It will be the day she's dead.

Is that offer also being extended toward people who DID believe you?

generic and wilson - my klassyness will never fade. I think.
